Woman dies after assault in Scarborough

A woman is dead following an assault in Scarborough early Thursday morning, Toronto police say.

At 5:29 a.m., police responded to a call for an assault at a home in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Donside Drive, south of St. Clair Avenue East in the Woodbine Gardens neighbourhood.

A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

In a follow up tweet a few hours later, Toronto police updated that the woman had died in hospital as a result of her injuries, and that this is now a homicide investigation.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene, said police.
